ITC Conference Grants (CG) are aimed at supporting PhD students and Early Career Invesitgators (ECIs) from participating ITC to attend international science and technology related conferences on the topic of the Action that are not organised by the STRATAGEM COST Action. Dr. Jitka Viktorova (ITC Conference Grants Coordinator) in cooperation with the Grant Holder, performs the evaluation of each Conference Grant application.

Dr. Verónica Bastos, from the University of Aveiro (Portugal) was awarded an ITC Conference Grant to attend the UPCON Conference (Conference on Properties, Design, and Applications of Upconversion Nanomaterials, Virtual 6.4.2021 – 9.4.2021). At the meeting, she presented her research results in the poster entitled Melanoma chemotherapy with doxorubicin loaded upconversion nanoparticles. Dr. Bastos is member of the working group 2: “Synthesis and nanodelivery stratagies for new therapeutic tools against MDR tumours” and also working group 3: “Efficacy validation of new therapeutic tools against pre-clinical models of MDR tumours”.

Dr. Hugo R. Caires and Dr. Diana Sousa, from the IPATIMUP, Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology – University of Porto (Portugal) were awarded an ITC Conference Grant to attend the III International AICC Exosome meeting Cell to cell delivery in cancer and therapy: a matter of carriers and messages (Virtual 7.6.2021 – 8.6.2021). At the meeting, dr. Caires presented his research results in the flash presentation entitled Analysing leukaemia-derived EVs in the peripheral blood of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia patients: a reliable source of residual disease biomarkers? Dr. Sousa presented her work in the flash presentation entitled Next generation sequencing analysis reveals distinct transcripts and microRNAs in tumor multidrug resistant cells and extracellular vesicles when compared with their drug-sensitive counterparts. The presentation of both Dr. Caires and Dr. Sousa were awarded as the best flash presentations of the AICC meeting. Both Dr. Caires and Dr. Sousa are part of the research group of Prof. Helena Vasconcelos(Core Group Member, MC Member, WG3 Leader).
